William Anthony Barber

September 28, 1954 — July 27, 2024

William Anthony Barber “Bill”, age 69, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by loved ones, on July 27, 2024, in Bellingham, WA, after fighting a courageous battle with lung disease. Bill was born in Miami, FL, and later relocated to Washington state, where he lived in Tacoma before settling in Bellingham, which he proudly called home for the remainder of his life.

A man of many talents, Bill dedicated much of his career to public transportation, working with both the Whatcom Transportation Authority and the Bellingham Public School District. He was a devoted father to his daughter, Larrissa, whom he loved more than life itself. He also cherished his two sons, Rodney, who he proudly called his own, and Ben, with whom he was grateful to have the opportunity to bond after many years apart.

Bill is now reunited in heaven with his beloved family, including his mothers, Lillian Vereen Jefferson, Winifred R Dixon-Barber.; father, William Alexander Barber; and brothers, Carl E. Dewitt, Earnest, Nimrod, Alphonso, and Tommie Lewis Jr.; sisters Quanita Attenberg and Gwendolyn Baylor. He is survived by his daughter, Larrissa Barber; sons, Rodney and Ben; sisters, Dr. Elnora Jean Brown, Lola D. Hendriex, and Deborah A. Barber; brothers Michael Jennings, Alfred Barber, Cornell Miller and a host of devoted nieces, nephews, grandchildren, cousins, and friends. Known for his warm and welcoming nature, there wasn’t a place Bill could go where he wasn’t recognized and welcomed; he was a friend to all. He was a proud member of both Narcotics Anonymous (NA) and Alcoholics Anonymous (AA), celebrating over a decade of sobriety and serving as a shoulder to lean on for others on similar journeys. Bill had a flair for fashion, always dressed to impress and matching perfectly. He loved dancing to his favorite music, watching football and basketball games, and spending quality time with those he loved the most. His family, friends, and faith filled his heart with happiness.

Bill’s vibrant spirit and unwavering kindness will be deeply missed by all who knew him. In celebrating his life, we honor the love he shared and the legacy he leaves behind.
