Stuart Duncan Smith, 71, of Ferndale, Washington, passed away from medical conditions while doing what he loved most, riding a motorcycle with friends on June 22, 2024. Stu was born in New Westminster, British Columbia to his loving parents, Edward and Mildred Smith. Stu is survived by his beloved wife, Teri Smith, who was his world and the love of his life. Also surviving him are his stepson, Todd Saulsbury, and wife, Heather Saulsbury, along with their two children, Mason and Cody Saulsbury. His brothers, David Smith, Grafton Smith, and Gary Smith, also survive him.

Known affectionately as "Stu" to everyone, he embarked on his 30year career in law enforcement in 1980 and quickly became a respected figure in Point Roberts. Stu served the people of Point Roberts for several years before extending his service to the broader community of Whatcom County. His friendly demeanor and unwavering commitment to community safety earned him widespread admiration. As a skilled Crime Scene Photographer and diligent Boating Safety Coordinator for the Marine Unit, Stu's expertise and meticulous attention to detail protected and served those he cared for deeply.

Beyond his professional achievements, Stu was cherished for his love and support for his family, friends, and colleagues. His joy for adventure was contagious, whether exploring the ocean depths with a camera in hand or riding the open roads on his motorcycle. Stu's sense of humor and kindness left an indelible mark on all who knew him, and his wisdom and guidance shaped the lives and careers of many within the law enforcement community.

As we mourn the loss of Stu, we celebrate his life filled with love, laughter, and unforgettable memories. May Stu's adventurous spirit continue to inspire us, and may he rest in peace knowing his legacy of kindness and dedication will endure forever.
