Shirley L. Emmons age 90, of Bellingham, WA, passed away with family by her side on Tuesday, July 30, 2024. Shirley was born on March 12, 1934, in Bellingham, WA to Louis and Jennie Sullivan. She was the oldest of three Sullivan sisters. She is survived by her son Brett (Dona) of Everson, WA; daughter, Brenda (Mike) Copland, of Bellingham, WA, grandchildren Kyle (Christine) Emmons, Brady (Katie) Emmons, Katherine Copland, Elizabeth (Nate) Copland-Adams, Christopher (Jahmekya) Copland and great-grandchildren Hayden Emmons, Wyatt Emmons, Blakely Emmons, Adalynn Emmons, Mason Emmons, William Adams and Elodie Adams, sister Beverly Hamilton, several nieces and nephews and many friends and family members. Shirley graduated from Bellingham High School with the class of 1952 and worked for Pacific American Fisheries in her younger years, followed by many years at Western Washington University working in the Data Processing Center and later managing Summer Session programs in Old Main. She retired from Western in 1991. Shirley loved her family, and appreciated spending time with them cooking, camping, RV’ing, boating and watching performances and sporting events involving her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed many summer days at the family property in Carlton, WA on the Methow River, and many winter days in Palm Desert, CA with lifelong friends. Shirley was preceded in death by her loving husband Allen Emmons in 2012. At Shirley’s request there will be no memorial service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Whatcom Hospice foundation at 2901 Squalicum Pkwy., Bellingham, WA 98225.
