Sarah Elizabeth Rogers was born in Orange County, California, on January 18, 1981. She was the first child of Will and Dorothy Rogers. Not long after, the family moved to Aberdeen, Washington where they lived until 1987. Following that, they lived in West Texas for 18 months.
From 1989 to 1995 Sarah lived with her family in Thailand, where her father served as a missionary pastor. These years had a great, formative impact on Sarah’s life and she never lost her desire to be associated with the culture that she experienced there. Sarah often used her Thai name, ‘Makara’.
Following this, Sarah lived with her family in Richmond, British Columbia, where she graduated from high school. She enjoyed living there in large part because of the strong Asian community and the multicultural nature of the city.
Sarah moved to Springfield, Missouri, to begin her college education but later moved to Bellingham where she attended Whatcom Community College and Western Washington University. Through the years, she worked at many jobs, but she ended up working in the field of Human Resources.
Sarah loved to travel and experience new people and places. Her favorite place to visit was the island of Maui. She enjoyed making jewelry for family and friends. She liked to read, and especially enjoyed learning about world history and other cultures. Sarah was passionate about the needs of suffering people around the world and always wanted to make a difference.
Sarah suffered with Crohn’s Disease for 18 years, and it was complications from this chronic illness that took her life on November 29, 2012. She was 31 years old. She is survived by her loving parents, her brother, Nathan and his wife, and her two sisters, Susanna and Sharon, and their husbands. We mourn her passing along with many other extended family and friends, but we also rejoice in the knowledge that she went home and we will see her again, according to the promise that we have in our Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ.
Sarah always had a big heart for helping those in need across the world. In lieu of flowers, we believe Sarah would be most honored through charitable donations. As such, we have set up a memorial fund for her through the Baptist Bible Fellowship International where 100% of all donations will go directly to foreign aid. Donations can be made by mailing a check or money order to the address below.
