After recently celebrating his 86th birthday with his family we announce the passing of Roy Leon Harmon with a heavy heart.
He was born in Cherokee, Oklahoma, and lived in California prior to moving to Whatcom County.
After graduating from Blaine High School in 1956, Roy enlisted in the Navy and was later stationed at Whidbey Island Naval Base where he was a flight mechanic.
He met his wife Myrna Wilson at Bunks Drive-in and married the following year on September 26, 1959.
After the Navy, he worked in auto repair and mechanics and started work at Intalco when it first opened, he worked as a Mechanical Maintenance Planner until his retirement.
He spent his retirement years wintering in Arizona, getting donuts with his grandchildren, watching the Mariners, showing his 1957 Chevy Belair, fishing and camping with family, cheering at his grandchildren’s ball games, and traveling the World.
Roy preferred to live out his faith rather than preach it and truly had a servant’s heart. He served on many mission trips in Guatemala, Mexico, Honduras and Chile. On these trips he was an asset to the team due to being able to fix and repair literally anything. He was a member of Geneva Community Church and Northlake Community Church where he was active in serving along with being a part of the Caleb Men’s group.
Roy and Myrna had three children, Kathy Herndon-Thompson (Don Thompson), Karen (Will) Johnson and David (Julie) Harmon. Grandchildren Louis Thompson, Phil Thompson, Nick Thompson, Trevor Post, Kellan Herndon, Rachel Johnson, Riley Johnson, Britton Johnson, Bridget Johnson, Landon Harmon and Blake Harmon. Great-Grandchildren, Ainsley Thompson, Findlay Thompson, Leon Post, Rowan Post, Kairee Johnson and Kenzie Johnson.
Roy is survived by his brothers Tom (Helen) Harmon and Bill (Carleen) Harmon and many nieces and nephews.
