Ronald Alfie Waldo

July 25, 1942 — August 23, 2024

Everson

Ronald Alfie Waldo, age 82, of Everson passed away Friday, Aug. 23, 2024 in Bellingham.

Ron was born July 25, 1942 in Dayton, Washington to parents Alfie and Catherine Melva (Scott) Waldo.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents, son Brian Lee Waldo, grandson Ryon Harriman, his brother Ted Waldo and sisters Mary (Waldo) Ricketts) and Frances (Waldo) Ford. He is survived by his wife Kay of 64 years; son Robert Waldo and his wife Robbie; daughter Sandra Guzman and her husband Ed; 5 grandchildren, Darcy Boersma (Mike), Stacy Harriman, Katie Bravo (Gerald), Brad Waldo (Jessica) and Ashley Loreen; 7 (and counting) great grandchildren and numerous other relatives.

Ronald moved to Spokane when he was 5. It was there, at age 15, he met the love of his life, Kay. On the very first night he met her, he told his friend Jim that he would marry that girl, which he did 2 years later in 1960. They had their 3 children while living in Spokane. Following in his sister Mary’s footsteps, Ron got into the Egg industry and through that, moved the family to Whatcom County in 1973. He stayed in the Egg industry for several years. He then had the opportunity to open Milt’s Pizza Restaurant in Lynden and managed it until landing at Edaleen Dairy where he spent 30 years. During those years he and Kay also owned Garden Street Dairy and The Ice Creamery, making and selling some of the best ice cream you will ever taste.

Ron had many hobbies over the years including golf, bike riding and stained glass but he is probably best known for his carpentry. Although not a professional, there wasn’t anything he couldn’t build. His wife kept him busy with many remodel projects over the years, while the rest of the family placed furniture orders as often as they could get away with it. His family was strong in the belief that he could do anything.

Civic duty was important to Ron, proven by his 20 years on the Everson City Council. While serving on the city council one of his biggest achievements was creating Everson Riverside Park. Discovering that the land had been donated to Everson for that specific use, Ron made it his special project to see that the funds needed were designated, secured outside grants and organized work parties that ensured the park was developed. With Ron’s initiative, Everson Riverside Park has played an important part in the Ski to Sea Race, the Centennial Trail, the Everson Days Celebration and remains an important part of the Everson Community.

Without a doubt Ron’s biggest accomplishment is the home he and Kay built. Their house was filled with love. Their children always knew they were safe, loved, and blessed. They were raised to know and love the Lord. Ron set an example of how to live a life that was full of faith, integrity, a good work ethic and service to the Lord, Community and Friends that not only his children but grandchildren attempt to follow today.

To say Ron will be missed by his family and friends is such an understatement. Ron’s faith was strong and he was sure in his passing where he was going. We are happy he is no longer hurting or struggling. The void he leaves in our lives will not be filled but for those of us who know the Lord we are at least comforted that we will be with him again.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 3:00 PM, Saturday, Sept. 14, 2024 at Riverside Park, 401 Park Drive, Everson, WA 98247 with Pastor Gerald Bravo officiating.
