Patricia Ellen VanDiest

Patricia (Patty) Ellen VanDiest of Sumas, WA passed away peacefully surrounded by her family July 12, 2021, at the age of 75.  Born in Abbotsford B.C., Patty was the youngest child of Frank & Dorotha Rolls. She had a stubborn spirit that carried her through her battle with cancer. Through all the radiation & chemotherapy treatments she never once complained.

For many years, the B&B was the place to receive food or a drink from Patty. Serving people was her pride and joy and she enjoyed it for many years while raising her 4 children. After retirement she and the love of her life Peter MacLean moved to Abbotsford. When Pete passed away, she moved back to Sumas where she lived out her last years enjoying what she loved most, gardening, playing cards, pulling slots and most of all, her family.

Patty is survived by her 4 children, Rhonda, Doug (Sherry), Sheri (John) Tewalt, Terry (Kari), her 9 grandchildren Adam (Brittany), Danielle (Maika), Megan (Dave), Kylee (Carlos), Nicole, Dallas, Carter, Lincoln & Sydney and was Gigi to 8 great grandchildren, who she loved to be surrounded by. She is also survived by her brother-in-law Pat Bolen, many nieces, nephews, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her ‘Sweet Pea’ Pete, her parents Frank & Dorotha, stepfather Les, brother Donald, her 3 sisters and 2 brothers in law, Elsie (Orville) Hicks, Phyllis (Jim) Waardenburg, Virginia Bolen and her daughter in law Holly VanDiest.

A memorial service will be held at the Sumas cemetery, 9445 Sumas Rd. Sumas, WA 98295 on Saturday, July the 24th at 11:00am.

A celebration of life will be planned for a later date
