Mary Roberta Gischer

Mary Roberta Gischer passed away in the arms of her husband Don in their home  early Monday morning, July 20, 2015  after a brief battle with ovarian cancer. Mary was born on October 19, 1948 to Burke E. and Mary E. O'Bryan in Caldwell, Idaho. The family moved to Northern California early in Mary's life and she attended schools in Santa Cruz before graduating from Soquel High School in 1966. She attended UC Davis, left college and married. After several years of marriage and the births of her two sons, she divorced and raised them by herself. She later remarried and relocated to Whatcom County in 1990. She found employment in Blaine and after several years divorced again. Mary later met Don through an online dating service; they married each other, and their marriage passed the nine year mark in May of this year. Since her retirement in March of 2013 she enjoyed two very fulfilling desires......to travel more and to quilt. She and Don were able to travel to many places in the U.S. that neither had seen before; when they were not on trips she became a passionate quilter. Virtually all of her quilting projects were given to family, friends, or causes.  Mary had no siblings and was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband Donald of Bellingham; sons Francis Fields of Bellingham and Dwayne Fields of Modesto, CA; Grandsons Colton and Cody Hardwick; step-granddaughter Lyndsey Fife; grandsons Garrett and Cody Fields; stepson Grant (Myra) Gischer; stepson Matt (Melissa) Gischer; and step-grandson Dean Gischer and step-granddaughter Teagan Gischer.  A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, July 27, 2015 at Garden Street United Methodist Church, 1326 N. Garden St., Bellingham, WA. 98226 with Pastor Terry B. Hall officiating. Memorials and donations in lieu of flowers may be sent to Garden Street United Methodist Church, Memorial Fund.
