Mary Eldora Altona

Mary Eldora (Hunt) Altona, age 85, of Custer passed away peacefully Thursday, May 9, 2019 at PeaceHealth St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Bellingham WA. She was born March 27, 1934 in Zion, Illinois to Eldon and Bessie Hunt. The youngest of 4, her family moved to the Wickersham Blue Canyon area near Lake Whatcom, Washington. She attended school in the Mt. Baker School District. Her earlier life was a series of hardships, moving from place to place. Eventually marrying Ted Altona and having 45 years together till his death in July of 2006. She raised 5 children and worked full time. Mary enjoyed gardening, baking, making teddy bears, drawing and water color painting. Later in life she greatly enjoyed her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Central in her life was her Faith in Jesus Christ and making sure you knew it! She is survived by her 5 children, Sharon Karber, Randy, Dale, Dan and Anthony Altona; her 10 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren and numerous other relatives.  A celebration of her life will be held Saturday, July 20th at 11:00 AM. At Good News Fellowship Church, 1252 West Axton Road, Ferndale, Washington 98248 with Pastor Luke LeViere officiating, with a reception following.
