Mark A. Kane, age 69, of Bellingham passed away on Thursday, May 25, 2023 at St. Joseph’s Medical Center after a brief illness. He was born to Mary and Robert Kane in Calgary, Alberta. He moved to Bellingham with his mother when he was 12 years old and attended Whatcom Middle School and graduated from Bellingham High where he met numerous lifelong friends. After graduation he enlisted in the US Navy where he served in the Vietnam Conflict aboard the USS New Orleans where he received the National Defense Service Medal, the Presidential Unit Citation, the Vietnam Service Medal and the Vietnam Campaign Medal. After returning home he remained in the Navy Reserves for four years eventually forging a career with the US Postal Service which lasted until retirement. Mark was a lover of sports of all kinds - baseball, soccer, basketball, football, and lacrosse, you name it - he loved it all. One of his favorite things to do was to watch his son and later his grandkids play sports and could be found on the sidelines loudly cheering them on. He was a devoted father and grandfather and is remembered by his family as a goofy, fun loving, family man, with a heart of gold. Mark is survived by his wife Nancy of 42 years; son Travis and wife, Britt; grandchildren Beatrix and Knox and his brother Richard of Brazil. A celebration of life will be held Sunday, June 25 at Bellingham, Golf and Country Club at 2:00 PM.
