Lois Zender, age 94, of Bellingham was born in Sumas, Washington on October 11, 1928 to Charles and Belle Merriam. Later she moved to Nooksack, WA and lived there until marrying Joe Zender on February 5, 1949. They were married for 57 years. Lois enjoyed her family, friends and her faith community at St. Peter’s Mission. Lois enjoyed caring for family and friends throughout her life. She volunteered at St. Joseph’s Hospital for over 20 years, was an active member of the Deming Log Show and Foothills Foodbank. Lois was preceded in death by husband Joe Zender, parents Charles and Belle Merriam, sister’s Betty Sorenson, Grace Jonasson, brother Harry Merriam, daughter JoAnne Smith and grandson Kenny Brown. She is survived by her children Doug and Cathy Zender, Don and Marie Valum, Dean and Betsy Zender, Son-in-law Jeff Smith; 36 grandchildren, 60 great grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers Lois’s family asks that donation St. Peter’s Mission Social Action, St. Peter’s Mission Music or favorite charity.
