Kurt Allen Heiken a resident of Portland Or. died at 11:10 April 19, 2016 in Bellingham Wa. after losing his fight with a brain tumor. Kurt was born December 22, 1966 in Seattle Washington to Edward Max and Margie Mae (Yager) Heiken. While growing up in the Boulevard Park area of Seattle he often enjoyed camping and fishing with his family. After attending WSU and studying Hotel & Restaurant he moved to Portland in 1994 where he obtained employment with Fred Meyer. After meeting Gary L. Hewett they enjoyed cooking, opera, the symphony and traveling to Europe, Mexico and within the US. Kurt is survived by his parents Edward Max and Margie Mae (Yager) Heiken, his brother Keith E. Heiken and his wife Kristen A. (Loft) Heiken, two nieces, Kara F. (Heiken) Roy her husband Rodney Roy and their 3 children Arissa, Sayama, & Zarina, Krystina M. (Heiken) Traweek and her husband Nickelaous E. Traweek and his traveling partner Gary L. Hewett. A remembrance and grave side service will be held May 3 at 11:00 at the Enterprise Cemetery located at 7041 Vista Drive, Ferndale Wa. A celebration of life luncheon will be held following the grave side service at the Custer United Methodist Church located at 2996 Main St. Custer Wa. Friends and family are welcome. Instead of flowers the family recommends memorial donations be given to the Whatcom Hospice House at 2800 Douglas Ave. Bellingham Wa. 98225.
