Kathy Hathaway, age 63, passed away Friday, September 1, 2017 in Bellingham after a courageous battle with Leukemia. Kathy was born October 24, 1953 in Bellingham to Lane and Sally Hathaway. She was preceded in death by her husband Steve Alf, mother, Sally Hathaway, grandmother Kathleen Lunde, brother Chuck Hathaway and cousin, Cheryl Lunde. Kathy grew up in Washington and Alaska, earning her law degree at Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana. Her greatest joy in life came in her career positions in tribal courts advocating for, and helping to protect and defend Native institutions and the Native way of life. From Kotzebue, Alaska to Neah Bay, Washington she was at times a Judge, Prosecutor, Public Defender and Court Administrator. She leaves behind many friends from the Reservation, especially Judge Iris Shue. Kathy was a kind and generous soul, and she will be greatly missed. She is survived by her dad, Lane Hathaway, brother, Steve and Simone Hathaway, sister, Patty Burlingame, Uncle David and Jan Lunde, niece, nephews and cousin who thought the world of her. A private memorial service with the family was held on September 3, 2017.
