Josef Mayr, age 88, born February 8, 1937, in Fuegen, Austria. He passed peacefully on Monday, March 31, 2025, from heart failure. He was married for 68 years to the love of his life Hildegard. They emigrated from Austria to Bellingham, WA, Dec 3, 1956. They had been told, with Mount Baker in the area, it would feel like Austria.
Joe was a Carpenter for 5 years in Austria and worked at Georgia Pacific for 41 years. After retirement in June 1998, he had many joys.
Joe and Hilda traveled throughout the states in their RV. They spent 20 years as snowbirds spending 5 months out of the year in Desert Hot Springs, CA. He enjoyed hiking the canyons, creating German music videos for the community at the club house, and attending church. He was an avid chess player and enjoyed playing cards with family and friends. He was a fan of watching old Western shows the Seahawks, Huskies, and World Cup Soccer.
Josef was preceded in death by his mother and father, Ferdinanda & Josef, sister, Hansi (Leo), brother Josef (Emma). He is survived by his wife Hildegard, son Gary (Jeanie), twins Jeff and Janet. Grandchildren Caleb and Sara, his sister Else Gibson and family, and numerous family members and friends in Europe. He will be dearly missed by all. Psalm 23:1-6, Thessalonians 4:13-14.
