John Herman Hoksbergen

Lynden, WA

John Herman Hoksbergen, age 81, was taken home to glory in accordance with God’s perfect plan, on January 8, 2025. He passed away at Whatcom Hospice House in Bellingham, ending his struggle with Parkinson’s disease. John was born on March 9, 1943 in Lynden, Washington to Lewis and Bertha Hoksbergen and was part of a lively family of nine children. On April 22, 1964, John married Betty (Vander Meulen), the love of his life for over 60 years, and together they faithfully raised their family of four children in Lynden, Washington. Together, they cherished their 18 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. 

Throughout his life, John was an active member within the Lynden community where he owned and operated various agriculture commodity, and trucking businesses. He was also a faithful member and leader in the churches he attended. John cherished his time with those he loved and is known for his kind and generous heart, never hesitating to help those in need. He will be remembered for his unwavering optimism, the legacy of his Christian faith, and his unconditional love for his family. 

John was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis and Bertha Hoksbergen; siblings, Tena Heeringa, Robert Hoksbergen, and Alyce DeHaan; and his precious granddaughter, Brooklyn Hoksbergen. 

John is survived by his wife Betty Hoksbergen, his children, Kristin (Brent) Weg, Julie (Michael) Decker, Robert (Jennifer) Hoksbergen, and Joel (Joy) Hoksbergen, as well as 17 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. John is also survived by his siblings; sister-in-law, Patti Hoksbergen, Ria (Ron) Bosman, Bertha (Harry) Stuurmans, brother-in-law, Dave DeHaan, Louie (Jeanne) Hoksbergen, George (Candy) Hoksbergen, and Kathy (Larry) VanderLeest. 

On January 18, 2025, a graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. at Greenwood Cemetery, 605 E. Wiser Lake Rd. Lynden, WA. It will be followed by a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. at Lynden United Reformed Church, 8650 Benson Rd. Lynden, WA, followed by a reception.
