Iola Jean Boyer

Iola Jean (Slack) Boyer, age 94, of Ferndale passed away Thursday, June 7, 2018 in Lynden. Iola was born on September 26, 1923 in Edmonton, Alberta Canada to parents James and Hallie Evelyn (Hartman) Slack. Iola attended Multnomah School of the Bible in Portland, Oregon and graduated June 2, 1950. She also received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Washington, where she graduated in December 20, 1957, and went on to serve as a Missionary and Nurse in Ghana, Africa for 50 years.  Iola was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Boyer; her parents and her brother Edwin Lowell Slack.  She is survived by: her step-children: Donna (Bob) Moeller and Paula (Wayne) Grubb; her nieces Sheila Ridenour and Sharon (Harold) Todhunter and numerous other relatives.  A graveside service will be held at Enterprise Cemetery, Ferndale, Friday, June 22, 2018, 1:00 PM with Pastor Kiyle Decker officiating; followed by a memorial service at 2:00 PM at First Baptist Church of Ferndale with Pastor Ralph Poulson and Pastor Ken Pollock officiating.
