Hank Hornstra passed away peacefully and went home to his Lord and Savior on March 27, 2025 in Lynden, WA at the age of 90.
Hank was born in Hidaard, Friesland on September 14, 1934 to Ale and Boukje Hornstra. He was the youngest of four children. He immigrated to the US with his parents at the age of 14. They joined his older siblings, Jessie and Sam, who were already in California. His first job was on a dairy farm in Gardena working for his uncle, Wilbur Hornstra. He later purchased a dairy farm in Santa Ana with his dad at the age of 18.
It was here that he met the love of his life, Anna Mae Offinga, at a skating rink. They were married on May 23, 1958. Three girls joined their family before they moved to Cathlamet, WA and purchased a dairy farm along the Columbia River. Their family was made complete when their son was born. They moved to Whatcom County in 1976 and operated a dairy farm and did custom farming in Sumas before retiring to Lynden in 2014.
Hank will be greatly missed by his wife of 66 years, Anna Mae, and his children Jennifer (Mike) VanBerkum, BJ (Kevin) Dripps, and Mike (Char) Hornstra, 11 grandchildren, and 21 great-grandchildren. Hank was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, daughter Bertie Terpstra, and grandson Jordan VanBerkum.
