Eva Marie Gering was born February 11, 1929 in Thiergart, West Prussia, Germany. She was a toddler when her parents moved to Kaiserslautern, a city in southwest Germany. Her father became a pastor of several Mennonite congregations. As a teenager, Eva worked for several farm families to avoid being drafted into Hitler’s work force. In 1951 her parents decided to immigrate to the USA and moved to Ritzville, Washington. After working a few years to help pay off debts, Eva trained to become a Licensed Practical Nurse. She took a job providing home care for a sick cancer patient and upon her death continued to look after her husband whom she subsequently married. After his death Eva & her sister Ruth decided to live together in Bellingham. Many happy years followed. After a short illness, Eva followed the Lord calling her home. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, a brother and her husband Leon Gering. She is survived by her sister Ruth Scheffler, brother-in-laws Helmut Lemke and Werner Dirks, and nephews, nieces and their families: Chris and Heather Dirks, Will and Sylvia Dirks, Renata and Howie Adan, Sue Dirks, Mike and Tannis Lemke, Krista Lemke and Lisa Hayes, Hanno and Anna Lemke, and numerous other relatives from her husband’s family. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 am, Monday, November 30, 2015 at Enterprise Cemetery in Ferndale, followed by a memorial service at 11:00 am at Good News Fellowship Church, 1252 West Axton Road, Ferndale, WA with Dr. Skip suess officiating.
