Connie Jo Johnson, age 89, passed away in Lynden, Washington into the arms of her Heavenly Father on January 20, 2025. She was born September 19, 1935 in Ponder, Texas to parents Barney William and Nora Eunice (Thomason) Vaughn. She grew up in El Cajon, California and moved to Portland, Oregon to attend the Bible school at Warner Pacific College. Connie married Iris “Ike” Johnson on July 3, 1955 in Seattle, Washington. In the early 1960s, they moved to a farm in Whatcom County to raise their three children and later relocated to El Paso, Texas in 1972 where she was a teacher’s assistant, Girl Scout leader, and Sunday School Teacher. She had a deep love of children and animals, and enjoyed taking her dogs on long walks. After the passing of her husband in 2008, Connie returned to Whatcom County in 2011 to be near her family. Along with her husband, she was preceded in death by her 3 brothers, Walter and George O’Dell, and William Vance Vaughn. Connie is survived by her sister Dorothy Christen; 2 daughters, Jeanne Ruth of Sumas and Joyce Matteo and her husband Chuck of Lynden; son, Wesley Johnson and his wife Sonia of Kent; 6 grandchildren Sam Choi, Chris Griffith, Jovan Hall, Ralene Vaughn, Andrea Caruso and Darlene Ruth and 5 great grandchildren Jonah, Abby, Justin, Nick and Miranda and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
