Cherry Ann Smit

Cherry Ann Smit, age 67, of Ferndale went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, Dec. 29, 2023 in Bellingham, WA. She was born Nov. 8, 1956 in Bellingham to parents Herbert W. and Janice G. (Shetler) Morell. Cherry graduated from Bellingham High School in 1974 and went on to graduate from Western Washington University with a Bachelor’s degree in Education. She married the love of her life, Glenn Marshall Smit, March 27, 1982 at Immanuel Bible Church in Bellingham. Cherry was very active at Covenant Grace Reformed Church in Lynden and served on the hospitality committee, but loved spending time with her family most of all.  She was preceded in death by her parents and is survived by her husband Glenn Smit of 41 years; children Adria and her husband John, David and his wife Michelle, Nicholas, and Benjamin; grandchildren Kristi, Crystal, Joshua, Caleb, Daniel, John, Chloe, Heidi, Braden and Kaylee; siblings Sandy, Jim, Linda and Tom; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. A graveside service will be held Friday Jan. 5, 2024, 12:30 PM, at Enterprise Cemetery, 7041 Vista Drive, Ferndale, WA 98248 followed by a 2:00 PM memorial services at the United Reformed Church, 8650 Benson Rd., Lynden, WA 98264 with Pastor Dale J. Van Dyke officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Cherry's name may be made to Rev. Mel Dotinga for his missionary work in Papua New Guinea.
