Carrie Cowles Dougan passed away peacefully under the loving care of the Whatcom Hospice House staff in Bellingham, WA, January 8, 2017 after a courageous battle with brain cancer. She was born in Eagle River, WI August 21, 1966 to Benedict Conrad Discher (deceased) and Mary Ann Discher. Michael G. Cowles lovingly became her adoptive Father in 1970 after he and Mary Ann were married. She began teaching in the Meridian School District in 1991 and had taught 5th grade there until she retired in 2015. She loved her students and never forgot their names. Carrie was an avid school and club sports fan for her three girls and always attended their soccer or basketball game or track meets unless it was unavoidable. She was a soccer coach for several years for primary school-age girls. She loved camping with her family when her daughters were young, gardening, watching professional sports on T.V. and caring for her family in the most amazing ways. She was preceded in death by her father Benedict Discher. She is survived by husband Michael Dougan, daughters Sara, Katie and Emma, adoptive father Michael Cowles (Lorraine), mother Mary Ann Smith (Gary), brother Todd Cowles and fiancee Tanya and daughters Grace and Evelyn, special sister-in-law Traci Cowles and nephews Aidan and Graham Cowles, sister-in-law Laura Sureepisarn (Boone), step-brothers Brian Smith, Jeff Smith, Dave Ryan, Mark Ryan, and step-sisters Christine Hodson and Christine Baumberger, loving uncles and aunts Art and Maryanne Dougan and Nick and Judi Seegert.
