Brian Jeffrey Matz passed away peacefully at 1:20 a.m. at the Hospice House on February 20, 2019, after courageously and valiantly battling cancer. He was a real trooper throughout his chemo. He was born on Thanksgiving Day, November 27, 1980 to John and Linda Matz in Bellingham, WA.
Brian was a very caring, loving and thoughtful young man. He was always willing to help someone or lend a hand. He was a substitute para-educator for Ferndale High School for a few years. He also volunteered in Jim LaRose II third grade classroom as well as at Ferndale Food Bank. When his dad became very ill, he willingly, lovingly and graciously helped take care of his dad.
Brian enjoyed playing cards, hiking, walking, camping and bike riding. He especially enjoyed spending time with family. Family meant a lot to him. Brian was a loving son, brother, uncle, cousin and nephew. Brian will be greatly missed.
Brian was preceded in death by his father John Matz, paternal grandfather and grandmother Paul and Marion Matz, uncles James LaRose I, Lindy Lingbloom, aunts Gene Swanson and Sonja Gjendem.
Brian is survived by his mother, brother Chris (Shirley) Matz, nephews Dominic and Jameson Matz, aunts Paula LaRose, Carol Lingbloom, Susan (Paul) Dean, uncle Dan (Shari) Patrick, Arne Gjendem grandmother Mireille Patrick as well as numerous cousins.
We are very grateful for the care that Brian received at the Hospice House
