Betty Marie Chamberlin

June 27, 1922 — December 30, 2024

Bellingham

Betty Marie (Dews) Chamberlin went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on December 30, 2024. This was just 3 days after she was blessed with 102 ½ years of life here on this earth. She was born in Burlington, WA on June 27, 1922 to Leonard N. Dews & Mabel F. (Rogers) Dews. Shortly after her birth, the family moved to Bellingham and she grew up on the lettered streets, graduating from Bellingham High in 1940.

During her high school years she met the love of her life, Henry “Hank” Chamberlin. They married in March of 1942 just before Hank went off to WWII and were married for 67 years until Hank passed away. Betty worked at The Avalon Theatre waiting for Hank to return from the war. In 1946, Norman Henry Chamberlin was born and then in 1954 along came daughter, Sallie Mae Chamberlin. Betty was a homemaker until a bookkeeping opportunity at The Firs Bible and Missionary Conference Center was offered. She accepted that offer and faithfully worked at that job for 40 years while still maintaining the energy to be a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Memory making and celebrating was her specialty! She decorated for all seasons and embraced birthday and anniversary celebrations with creativity and enthusiasm.

Many children were impacted by her role as "Aunt Betty", the weekly Sunday School Supervisor of the primary age children at Geneva Community Church, now Northlake Community Church. She would end each week's class with the song, "Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus," and she lived out the words of that song with her trust in Him. She brought the joy of Christmas to the annual Geneva Christmas Program by transforming the children into an angelic chorus.

After enjoying her home on N. Park Dr for almost 70 years, upon the sudden death of Sallie she moved in with her grand son-in-law AC and granddaughter Cari. Cari, Karen, Baylee and caregivers Nika & Kellianne Talbert gave her exceptional loving care. During her last five years, she enjoyed the presence of her beloved family and the serene views of Lake Whatcom. She even got to meet and know her two great-great-grandchildren, bridging a 100 year age gap!

Betty was preceded in passing by her parents, her husband, Henry (Hank) Chamberlin, brother Roger Dews & daughter Sallie Chamberlin. She leaves behind son Norm (Karen) Chamberlin, grandchildren Cari (AC) Griffith, Roger (Sheri) Chamberlin, and great grandchildren, Baylee Griffith, Hayden Griffith, Jake (Alaina) Chamberlin, Parker Chamberlin, Karson Chamberlin & Isaac Chamberlin, and great great grandchildren Levi Griffith & Clara Chamberlin.

Her legacy will be remembered as one who had great care for her family; she chose peace over chaos, contentment over worry and joy in serving her Lord. The family is comforted knowing that there was a great reunion and celebration in Heaven on December 30, 2024!!

There will be a celebration of remembrance for Betty at a later date and we will make those details public as they are established.

Donations in Betty’s name may be made to The Firs or Northlake Community Church.
