Angeline “Angie” Schutte went to be with the Lord on December 7, 2024 at the age of 99. She was born at home on October 23, 1925 in Pease, Minnesota to Peter and Lena Schutte (Polinder).
In 1941 she moved with her family, by train, to a small farm in Strandell (near Everson), then moved with her mother and eight siblings to Bellingham in 1945 after the death of her father. Angie was known for, and enjoyed being a hard worker all of her life. She worked on their small farm as a young woman and eventually on her own small farm, where she had horses. During World War II she worked in a furniture factory in Bellingham and then was employed at Georgia Pacific in Bellingham for 35 years and worked in the tissue division, where she earned the respect of her many coworkers.
Angie was also known for enjoying life and playing hard. Horseback riding was at the top of her list and she loved her Tennessee Walkers. She was a founding member of the Whatcom Chapter of the Backcountry Horsemen of Washington, enjoyed trailblazing, riding, camping and carting. One of her exciting trail adventures involved meeting a standing bear head on while on her horse, who stood its ground (all turned out well). It isn’t a surprise that she was still bucking bales in her 70’s and rode horses until age 85.
During her life she also enjoyed going to church, gardening, rock hounding, hunting, fishing, cross country skiing, fixing puzzles, her pets, steam engine trains, watching sports, bowling, watching horse races, and watching the Iditarod sled dog race, both on TV and in person in Alaska.
She was devoted to and enjoyed her family and friends of all ages. She was generous and loving. The highlight was the family Christmas Party Potluck. In recent years she looked forward to the birthday pinochle parties with her sisters. On her 99th birthday this past October 23rd , she enjoyed lunch out, pumpkin pie and a pinochle party with her sisters…and yes, she did win!
We loved and will miss Angie! She had a strong, steady faith in Jesus Christ as her Savior. We look forward to spending eternity together!
Angie was preceded in death by her parents Peter and Lena (Polinder) Schutte; her brothers Dick Shutte and LeRoy Schutte; her sisters Katherine McAfee, Mildred Lehman and Joan Schutte; and many relatives. She is survived by sisters Edith Miller (Bud), Lucille Ogar, Judy Halliburton (Jim) and many relatives.
A special thanks to St Joseph Peace Health Hospital, Hospice and Orchard Park Assisted Living for their special care for Angie.
