Alan Kirkman Tarr

Alan K. Tarr, age 82, of Everson, passed away Saturday, April 2, 2016 in Bellingham.  He was born April 28, 1933 in Bellingham to parents Stephen and Helen (Herre) Tarr.  Alan was raised on a dairy farm in Whatcom County, graduated from Lynden High School in the class of 1950, graduated from the University of Washington with a degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1956, served in and was Honorably Discharged from the U.S. Navy in 1960.  He met the love of his life Sandra Watts and they were married in 1958.  Alan made his career at his alma mater the University of Washington as an administrator in the facilities department. When he was not at his day job Alan loved working in his vegetable garden, camping or attending the Opera in Seattle.  He also loved working with his grandsons around the farm and restoring Minneapolis-Moline Tractors.   Alan was preceded in death by his parents, wife Sandra and his brother Terence.  He is survived by his daughter, Pamela and her husband Steven Lyng; grandsons, Andrew, Joshua and wife Allison, Timothy and Daniel Lyng; great grandson, Jayce Lyng and other relatives.   A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 9, 2016 at 1:00pm at Sunrise Baptist Church, 2480 West Badger Road, Custer, WA 98240 with Pastor John Eichmann officiating. Interment was held at Ten Mile Cemetery. The family suggests memorial contributions be made in Alan’s name to Whatcom Hospice House, 2800 Douglas Rd., Bellingham, WA 98225.
